China to compete in dot-com domainsIn a move that ignores the U.S. stranglehold on domain names, China has announced it will start its own domain-name system beginning tomorrow, reports the People's Daily Online.
 China's Ministry of Information Industry plans to add three top-level domain names: dot-net, and dot-com and dot-net.

China Creates Own DNSLast year there was ample criticism of ICANN by foreign countries, who suggested that the organization was far too America-Centric. Some wanted to see a new ITU supported coalition formed for Internet governance, though others (like China & Turkey) proposed more drastic measures. China tomorrow will launch their own DNS system, with three temporary top level domains, (.CN, .Com and .Net) that will be available only via Chinese networks. Chinese users will be routed directly through the Chinese domestic analysis server, bypassing ICANN entirely

Switzerland seeks UN help to win domain names The Swiss government has filed a complaint with the World Intellectual Property Organization, in an attempt to win the rights to Switzerland's in cyberspace, an AFP report said.
 The report said the Federal Chancellery was seeking control of the Internet domain names schweiz.ch, suisse.ch and svizzera.ch, which mean "Switzerland" in the country's majority German, and minority French and Italian respectively
